Quick Overview of PALS

The VKRP assessments of mathematics, social skills and self-regulation complement the PALS, which has assessed children’s literacy skills for many years and is used in 99% of school divisions across Virginia.

The Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS) is a proactive and preventive screening measure that assists teachers in providing differentiated, targeted instruction to meet each student’s needs. PALS provides teachers with invaluable information that they can use to plan appropriate instruction for both grade-level readers and struggling readers.

Our Connection with PALS

VKRP works closely with the Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS) to provide a more comprehensive picture of school readiness.
